HONOLULU – On day two of the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team defeated Wichita State, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18). UH improves to 2-0 while the Shockers fall to 0-2. Hawai'i plays Arizona tomorrow night for the tournament title.
Three Rainbow Wahine players posted double figures in kills led by Kanani Danielson with 16 to go along with a team-high 14 digs. Jane Croson recorded 14 kills and 13 digs, and Brittany Hewitt added 12 kills and four digs.
Emily Adney led WSU with 12 kills and Sarah Waldorf added a match-high 18 digs.
The 'Bows faltered in the first set as Wichita State took the lead with a 25-21 win. With the game knotted at 18-18, the Shockers went on a 4-1 run to pull away on Cami Zweilser's set-winning kill. Zweilser recorded 10 kills and eight digs in the match.
Hawai'i responded with a second-set win to even the match. The set was close throughout, as WSU took a 16-13 lead on consecutive kills by Adney. The Rainbow Wahine responded with a 5-1 run to take the lead and held on for the win.
UH was too much for Wichita State in the final two sets, winning by scores of 25-19 and 25-18.
Mita Uiato recorded 48 assists and Emily Hartong posted a team-high four blocks.
There were 6,225 tickets sold for the contest.
First serve between the Rainbow Wahine and Wildcats is set for 5:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. start time for Wichita State and San Francisco.
