HENDERSON, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team moved up two spots in the final round of the Western Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday at the Rio Secco Golf Club and finished in a tie for seventh place.
As a team, the Warriors shot 12-over 300, their best round during the three-day tournament, and finished tied with Boise State at 921 (308-313-300).
New Mexico State captured its fourth consecutive WAC title with an 875 total holding off San Jose State (888) and Fresno State (889). Louisiana Tech and Idaho (901) tied for fourth followed by Nevada (913), UH, BSU, and Utah State (950).
Individually, SJSU's Mark Hubbard parred the third sudden death playoff hole over Idaho's Damian Telles to capture the individual championship. Hubbard shot 3-under 69 to finish at 4-under 212.
Junior T.J. Kua was UH's top finisher with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 18th at 228. Kua started the round at 2-under through the first 12 holes before fading down the stretch.
Sophomore Henry Park shot 75 on Wednesday and with consecutive 78s in the first two rounds, finished in a tie for 26th at 231.
Freshmen Nainoa Calip and Tommy Yamashita completed their first WAC Championship. Calip finished with a final round 5-over 77 for a 233 total and 31st place while Yamashita struggled to an 80 for a 234 total and tie for 32nd.
Junior Jared Sawada had his best round of the tournament, shooting 75 for a 41st at 241.
The tournament concluded UH's 2010-11 season.
