HENDERSON, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team continued play in the Western Athletic Conference Championships Tuesday at the Rio Secco Golf Club. The Warriors shot 313 and are in ninth place.
New Mexico State leads the team competition with a 583 followed by Fresno State (593), San Jose State (597), Nevada (605), Louisiana Tech (605), Idaho (605), Boise State (618), Utah State (619), and UH (621).
Individually, Idaho's Damian Telles leads the field after firing a second round 1-over 73 for a 5-under 139 total. Telles holds a three shot lead over Fresno State's Bryan Hogan (142). San Jose State's Mark Hubbard is four strokes back at 143. The three are the only players under par for the tournament.
For the Warriors, junior T.J. Kua shot the team's low round of the day with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 25th with a two-round score of 155.
Freshman Tommy Yamashita and sophomore Henry Park shot the same score as Monday's first round with 77 and 78, respectively. Yamashita is in 24th with a score of 154 while Park is tied for 28th at 156.
Freshman Nainoa Calip, who posted a 2-over 74 on Monday, struggled early with bogeys in six of his first seven holes en route to an 82 and is tied for 28th at 156. Junior Jared Sawada birdied the par-5 18th to finish at 85 and is 43rd at 166.
The tournament concludes on Wednesday.
