Round 1 Results
HENDERSON, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships in eighth place Monday at the Rio Secco Golf Club.
As a team, the Warriors shot 308 with freshman Nainoa Calip leading the way with a 2-over 74, tied for 14th. The Hilo, Hawai'i native finished his final 11 holes in 1-under after starting the day bogeying three of the first seven holes.
Fresno State leads the team competition with an even-par 288 followed by New Mexico State (289), San Jose State (293), Louisiana Tech (295), Idaho (298), Nevada (299), Utah State (301), UH, and Boise State (309).
Individually, Idaho's Damian Telles leads the field after Round 1 with a 6-under 66. Fresno State's Bryan Hogan is two shots back at 68 and teammate Brian Sunker shot 70.
UH freshman Tommy Yamashita shot a 5-over 77, which included a 1-over 38 on the back nine. Sophomore Henry Park fired a 6-over 78 followed by T.J. Kua (79), and Jared Sawada (81).
The tournament continues on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT.
