Rainbows Fall To Valpo In Series Finale

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team lost Saturday to Valparaiso, 7-2. The game was the series finale, as Valpo improves to 17-22 and the Rainbows drop to 22-17. 

Kolten Wong batted 2-3 to lead the Rainbows, adding one run and one RBI. Sean Montplaisir and Collin Bennett each recorded one hit, with Breland Almadova posting one run and Zack Swasey adding one RBI. 

The Crusaders opened the game with all the runs they would need. Valpo scored five first-inning runs highlighted by Robby Robinson's two-RBI triple. Conner Little (3-3) allowed all five runs before being relieved by Zach Gallagher. Gallagher pitched seven complete innings, allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts. 

Chris Manning led Valpo with three hits, one run, and one RBI. Damon McCormick (3-5) pitched eight innings for the win, allowing two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts. 

There were 4,494 tickets sold for the contest, and a turnstile count of 3,294. 

The Rainbows now head out for their first conference road trip of the season. They will play a pair of four-game series' against Fresno State and Nevada. UH begins its series with Fresno State on Friday, April 29, at 6:05 Pacific Time.
