Women’s Golf Tied For Third After Day 1 Of WAC Championships

Round 1 Results

MESA, Ariz. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is tied for third place, just four strokes off the lead, after Round 1 of the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Friday, at the Longbow Golf Club.
 
The Rainbow Wahine shot an opening round 305, four strokes behind leader Nevada (301). San Jose State (302) is one stroke back followed by UH and New Mexico State (305), Fresno State (308), Boise State (310), and Idaho (314).
 
All five UH golfers shot rounds in the 70s led by Erika Lundberg's 4-over 75. The junior carded four bogeys during her round. Sophomores Brigitte Baker and Ka'ili Britos each shot 5-over 76. Aside from two double bogeys on the front nine, Baker had a steady opening round finishing her final 10 holes in 1-over par. Britos had an up-and-round round which featured seven bogeys, including a stretch of five straight from Nos. 10-14, and two birdies at No. 8 and 16.
 
Also competing for Hawai'i were junior Madeleine Ystrom, who shot a 78, and freshman Anna DePalmam who fired a 79.
 
Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro is the clubhouse leader with an opening round 3-under 68. The 15th-ranked player nationally holds a four stroke lead over Nevada's Joyce Chong and San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert.
 
The second round continues on Saturday with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
