Men’s Golf Steady In Round 3 To Finish Fresno Lexus Classic

Final Results

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a final round 273 to finish in 15th place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic Tuesday at Sunnyside Country Club.
 
The Warriors completed the three rounds with scores of 387, 388 and 373 for a total of 1,159. UH's final round featured all six golfers shooting in the 70s, including freshman Tommy Yamashita's even-par 72.
 
Fellow freshman Nainoa Calip was the team's top finisher for the tournament with a three-round score of 227 (78-74-75), 11-over par, tying for 44th place. One stroke back in a tie for 49th place was junior T.J. Kua (75-76-77=228) and sophomore Cory Oride (75-78-75=228).
 
Yamashita improved 10 strokes from his second round 82 and was one of 22 golfers to post even-par or better in the final round. He finished in a tie for 71st place at 234 (80-82-72). Freshman David Saka tied for 93rd at 239 (82-78-79) while junior Jared Sawada shot the team's second best score of 74 in finishing for 97th at 243 (79-90-74).
 
Day 1 leader San Diego State ran away with the team title winning by 26 strokes with a score of 3-over 1,083. Pacific's Alex Johnson sunk a 20-foot birdie putt on the fifth playoff hole to win the individual title over Bryan Harris of UC Irvine. Johnson and Harris posted scores of 6-under 210.
 
The Warriors will next compete in the University of San Diego Invitational, March 14-15.
