FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (18-10, 8-7 WAC) concludes its Western Athletic Conference regular-season schedule with a match-up against Fresno State (13-16, 5-10 WAC) on Saturday, March 5. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. HT) at the Save Mart Center.
The Rainbow Warriors have won five straight games and nine of its last 11 to move up into a tie for fourth place in the WAC standings. With just one game remaining, the 'Bows can finish as high as a tie for second place. Despite that, Hawai`i can claim no higher than a fifth seed in next week's WAC Tournament due to tie-breaker scenarios.
UH is coming off a thrilling 77-71 road win at San Jose State on Thursday night. It was the fourth road win in the last five tries for the 'Bows, who got 26 points from
Zane Johnson and 19 from
Bill Amis. Meanwhile, junior guard
Jeremiah Ostrowski recorded 10 assists with no turnovers in his third career start.
Fresno State has lost its last four league games including a 69-66 setback at Idaho on Thursday. The Bulldogs led by as many as 13 points in the game, before falling in a tight one down the stretch. Fresno State currently sits in a tie for seventh place in the WAC with San Jose State. The Rainbow Warriors defeated the Bulldogs, 62-52, earlier this season in Honolulu.
Following its game against Fresno State, the Rainbow Warriors will head to Las Vegas for the 2011 WAC Tournament in the Orleans Arena, March 9-12. UH will open the tournament against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday, March 9.
