HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team defeated Centenary College tonight, 8-4. With the win, the Rainbows (11-9) sweep the series with the Gents and run their win streak to five games. Centenary falls to 3-10.
Michael Blake posted two hits, one run, and two RBI to the lead the 'Bows, with Collin Bennett adding two hits, one run, and one RBI. For the Gents, R.J. Talamantes and Matt Creamer each recorded two hits and one run, with Creamer adding one RBI.
Alex Capaul (1-1) picked up the win in a relief effort, pitching two and one-third scoreless innings. Cole Thompson (0-5) received the loss for Centenary.
Kolten Wong's two-run homerun in the sixth inning was the big hit of the game. After the 'Bows regained the lead, Wong's third roundtripper of the season increased the lead to 7-4. Wong posted one hit, one run, and two RBI for Hawai'i.
Despite the win, UH trailed 3-1 after Centenary plated two fifth inning runs. The 'Bows responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, and then tacked on three more in the sixth inning. Bennett and Blake recorded doubles in the fifth and Wong hit his two-run shot in the sixth. For good measure, Blake delivered an RBI-triple in the eighth inning to put UH ahead 8-4.
Hawai'i next hosts No. 13 Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series this weekend. Game one is set for Friday, March 25, at 6:35 p.m.
