Men’s Golf Moves Up In SD Intercollegiate Final Round

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team moved up two spots to 10th place in the final round of the San Diego Intercollegiate, Tuesday at the San Diego Country Club.
 
The Warriors improved 24 strokes from their second round and finished the two-day tournament with rounds of 393, 404, and 380 for a 1,177 total. Texas-Arlington and SMU shared the team title at 1,093 while UTA's Paul McConnell took titlist honors with a 2-under 214, one stroke ahead of SMU's Kelly Kraft.
 
For Hawai'i, sophomore Cory Oride posted a solid round of 1-under 71 which included three birdies and two bogeys. The Lihu'e, Kaua'i native completed the tournament at 242 and a tie for 65th place.
 
UH's top finisher for the tournament was freshman Nainoa Calip, who shot 3-over 75 on Tuesday to finish at 227 (76-76-75) and tie for 34th place. Junior Jared Sawada was seven strokes back of Calip at 234 with rounds of 74-81-79 and tie for 52nd place.
 
Junior T.J. Kua (81-82-77) and freshman David Saka (77-82-81) tied for 59th place at 240 while senior Kamden Brakel tied for 72nd at 247 (86-83-78).
 
The Warriors take the next month off before competing in the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif., April 16-17.
