Men’s Basketball Continues Homestand With Pair Of Games

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team will play its final two non-conference games before heading into league play when it hosts South Carolina State on Thursday, Dec. 29 and nationally ranked UNLV on Saturday, Dec. 31.
 
Tipoff for the South Carolina State game will be at 8:00 p.m. and will follow the women's basketball game versus Florida Gulf Coast at 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, UH will take on UNLV at 3:00 p.m. in a New Year's Eve affair.
 
Hawai'i is coming off an exhilarating holiday weekend of basketball, having won two of three games in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, including upsets over a nationally ranked Xavier squad and Clemson out of the powerful ACC. Zane Johnson was named to the all-tournament team, as well as WAC Player of the Week, after averaging 19.7 ppg during the week.
 
The Rainbow Warriors, who have won five of their last six games, will face a MEAC team for the second time this year when it takes on South Carolina State. UH defeated North Carolina A&T in Wailuku, Maui on Dec. 18. UNLV, ranked No. 19 in the Associated press poll, poses another serious challenge as UH's second Top 25 opponent in a week.  
 
Following its games versus South Carolina State and UNLV, Hawai'i will open its final season in the Western Athletic Conference with a home date versus San Jose State on Jan. 7.

Ticket Information: $26 (lower); $18 (upper-adult); $16 (upper-sr. citizen);  $5 (upper-students, ages 4-HS); UH Manoa students free with validated ID. Parking $5. Fans with a men's ticket will be admitted free to the women's game at 6:00 p.m. Special upper level ticket rates ($10-adult; $8 senior citizens, $5 students 4-HS) available on game day for basketball doubleheader and must be purchased by halftime of the women's game.
Promotions: Waikiki Beach Marriott is the game sponsor and will provide the chance for a two-night stay during its halftime contest.
Coaches: Gib Arnold is in his second year at UH (26-18). Tim Carter is in his fifth year at South Carolina State (62-78) and his 16th season overall (222-230).
