Men’s Basketball Plays Pair Of Games In California

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team heads to the road for the second time this season when it travels to California for a pair of non-conference match-ups. First up for the Rainbow Warriors (2-2) is a meeting with Pepperdine (3-3) on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).

Hawai'i lost in it first game away from home this year, when it fell to No. 22 Gonzaga, 73-54, in the B.C. Basketball Classic in Vancouver on Nov. 19. UH now looks to win back-to-back games for the first time this young season when it faces the Waves on Saturday.

After losing a two straight games by double-digits, UH earned a 75-70 home win over Pacific in its last outing on Friday, Nov. 25. The 'Bows led for the majority of the contest but needed a Garrett Jefferson put-back with 3.1 seconds left to secure the win.

Senior guard Zane Johnson led UH with 21 points against Pacific and is averaging a team-high 17.8 ppg. Freshman Shaquille Stokes recorded 10 assists in the win and is leading the team at 4.3 apg. Meanwhile, sophomore Trevor Wiseman recorded his second double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) in four games this year.

The trip to Pepperdine will be UH's first visit to Malibu in 40 years and a homecoming of sorts for head coach Gib Arnold, who served as an assistant for the Waves for four seasons (1999-2003).

Following its game versus Pepperdine, UH will travel to Stockton, Calif., for its second meeting with Pacific in an 11-day span. The teams will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
