VANCOUVER, B.C. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team will face its first major test of the early season when it squares off against nationally ranked West Coast power Gonzaga in the BC Basketball Classic, Saturday, Nov. 19 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) at Roger Arena.
UH is coming off a 86-67 season-opening win over Cal State Northridge on Monday as part of the ESPN's College Hoops Tip-off Marathon.
Zane Johnson poured in 24 points, while
Trevor Wiseman added 19 points and 16 rebounds. Gonzaga also participated in the ESPN marathon, taking down Washington State, 89-81.
Though technically a neutral site game Gonzaga features three players from Canada including its top player in senior center Robert Sacre, who grew up less than 10 miles from Rogers Arena. All three Canadian-born Zags have played on some form of Canada's national team.
This is the fourth all-time meeting between the teams and Gonzaga leads the all-time series 2-1. The two teams last faced each other in the second round of the 1998 NIT, with Hawai`i defeating the Bulldogs, 78-70.
