HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up action in the final day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. Freshman Martina Kostalova captured the singles title in the Green Flight with a thrilling 7-5, 7-5 win over Sasha Ulbrichtova from BYU-Hawai'i.

The Rainbow Wahine hosted local schools BYUH, Chaminade and Hawai'i Pacific with both singles and doubles competition over the course of the three day tournament. All eight Rainbow Wahine players battled in the final day of competition on Saturday. The 'Bows fell in both the Black and Green Flights' doubles championships.

In the Black Flight doubles division, the duo of Jamie Pawid and Katarina Poljakova advanced to the championship match after Chaminade's Yanita Arnaudova and Yuka Kondo retired without playing the match. BYUH's Annie Hwang and Sherry Liu defeated UH's Katarina Poljakova and Xenia Suworowa, 8-0. In the championship, Pawid teamed up with Poljakova after Pinterova fell ill. But BYUH partners Hwang and Liu outlasted UH's Poljakova and Pawid in a tight championship match, 9-7.

The Green Flight's doubles bracket saw BYUH's Sasha Ulbrichtova and Sophia Simmons advance over Hawai'i's Rebecca Faltusz and Kelsey Daguio in the semifinals. On the other half of the draw, Aglae Van den Bergh and Kostalova overpowered Carrie Shuler and Thalia Wilcznynski (HPU), 8-3. In the championship match, BYUH captured the title with a 8-6 win over the Rainbow Wahine.

In singles action, the Black Flight's suspended match from Friday night was completed with BYUH's Hwang completing the comeback with a win over UH's Pinterova, 5-7, 6-1 (10-3) in the Black Flight. Hwang was slated to play her teammate, Liu but it was decided that they would not play the championship match.

The Green Flight singles championship saw Kostolova take the first set 7-5, but in the second set she fell behind 2-5. Kostolova then mounted a furious comeback in which she won seven straight games to tie-overtake-and-defeat Ulbrichtova for the championship in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

Next up for the Rainbow Wahine is the ITA Regionals, Oct. 20-24, in San Diego, Calif.
