Round 2 Results
LIHUE, KAUA'I – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team remains in first place through two rounds of play of the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational Monday at the Puakea Golf Course. Hawai'i shot a 6-under 282 while increasing their overall lead over by three strokes during round two of competition. The Warriors (285-282=567) are seeking their first Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational crown ever and their first tournament title since winning the Naris Cup in Okayama, Japan in March of 2009.
UH currently has three golfers in the top five including tournament leader
T.J. Kua. Kua tied a career-low with a second round, 5-under 67 and is 8-under for the tournament (69-67=136).
Right behind Kua is sophomore
Nainoa Calip who is in second place after shooting career-low 3-under 69 during round two. Calip is at 5-under par (70-69=139) for the tournament and trails Kua by three strokes.
Junior Corey Oride also tied a career-low with his 2-under 70 and is in fifth place (71-70=141). Also competing for UH is sophomore
Tommy Yamashita (73-73=146/t12th), freshman
Michael Koeneke (75-72=147/t14th), and junior
Henry Park (72-77=149/t22nd).
Freshman
Brian Lee was the other Warrior who shot under-par during round two after his 2-under 70 which put him in a tie for 14th (77-70=147). Also competing as individuals are sophomore
David Saka (75-75=150/t25th), freshman
Ryan Kuroiwa (77-76=153/t32nd), and senior
Jared Sawada (83-72=155/37th).
Three-time defending tournament champion San Diego is in third place (296-284=540) behind UH and College of Charleston (289-285=574). Utah Valley State (300-291=591), Seattle (296-299=595), and North Dakota State (308-293=601) round out the field.
Alex Ching, a Punahou School graduate, is now in sixth place at one-under par after shooting a 2-over 74 for the second round.
The tournament will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round.
