Warrior Pair Wins WAC Player Of The Week Honors

DENVER – University of Hawai'i linebacker Aaron Brown and placekicker Kenton Chun were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Defense and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, after their performances in UH's 16-14 victory at Idaho last Saturday.

Brown, a senior from Puyallup, Wash. (Saddleback CC), had a team-high nine tackles (5 solo), including 1.5 for a loss, and an interception. With Hawai'i trailing 14-13, Brown helped stop Idaho early in the fourth quarter on a 4th-and-1 running play from the Warrior 15-yard line and then later picked off a pass near the goal line with just under three minutes to play to set up the winning field goal.

The award is Brown's second of his career. Last season, he had two interceptions including one for touchdown against San Jose State in earning defensive player of the week honors.

Chun, a senior from Honolulu, O'ahu (Southern Oregon), hit a game-winning 35-yard field goal with 32 seconds remaining. Chun also nailed a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 10-7 lead. Entering the game, he had one career field goal attempt, hitting a 38-yarder in the season opener against Colorado.

The awards mark the second time this season that UH captured two of the three players of the week. Earlier this season, quarterback Bryant Moniz and lineman Paipai Falemalu were named players of the week following the team's season-opening victory over Colorado.
