RENO, Nev. – The No. 7 University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Nevada on Saturday (25-14, 25-21, 25-17). The Rainbow Wahine improve to 24-1 overall and 12-0 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Wolf Pack drop to 4-18 overall and 1-9 in conference.
Kanani Danielson and
Jane Croson had 13 and 12 kills, respectively, with both adding seven digs.
Brittany Hewitt posted four blocks and
Elizabeth Blake added 11 digs.
Janelle Batista recorded 10 kills to lead Nevada.
Hawai'i raced away with a win in set one after leading by just one point midway through. Batista recorded a kill to bring the score to 18-14, but the 'Bows closed the set with seven straight points.
UH trailed by four early in set two but rebounded to take an 8-7 lead. The Wolf Pack stayed close for much of the set but UH never relinquished the lead. Later in the set, a pair of Croson kills gave her team a 19-15 lead, the biggest of the set for Hawai'i. Nevada fought back to tie the score at 21-21, but Croson drilled another two kills to give UH the win.
Nevada was no match for Hawai'i in the third set, as UH reeled off six straight points midway through to take an 11-6 advantage. The lead expanded to nine points before the 'Bows cruised to the sweep.
UH returns home and will next play Louisiana Tech on Thursday, November 10
th. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. The 'Bows will then host New Mexico State next Saturday, Nov. 12, on senior night for their regular season home finale.
