HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team begins the second half of the 2011 season by hosting New Mexico State in its annual Homecoming Game, Saturday, Oct. 22. Kick-off for the Western Athletic Conference match-up is 6:00 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
The Warriors (3-3, 1-1 WAC) will play five of their final seven regular season games at home beginning with this week's contest against the Aggies. UH is coming off a heartbreaking 28-27 loss at San Jose State last Saturday, in which the Spartans scored the game-winning touchdown with 36 seconds remaining. Hawai'i overcame five first half turnovers and a 20-7 deficit with 20 unanswered points in the second half. The Warriors forced six Spartan turnovers after halftime, including five straight SJSU possessions.
The Aggies (3-3, 1-1) have won their last two games, including last week's 31-24 victory over Idaho in Las Cruces, N.M. Kenny Turner rushed for 171 yards and one score and quarterbacks Matt Christian and Travaughn Colwell combined to pass for 202 yards and two scores, both of which went to receiver Kemonte Bateman.
Hawai'i leads the overall series 7-0, including all four wins in Honolulu. The Warriors defeated the Aggies 59-24 last season in Las Cruces, N.M.
