Men's Swimming & Diving Conclude Season-Opening Weekend Against Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's swimming & diving team took on Stanford in a dual-meet on Friday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Rainbow Warriors fell short to the Cardinal 150-81 in their second meet of the season.
 
UH tallied four victories, with senior Perry Sharify and junior Luca Mazzurana grabbing one win each for the swimmers' solo events. Sharify narrowly edged out Stanford in the 200 breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:04.51. Mazzurana finished strong for in the 200 butterfly with at time of 1:48.25.
 
A team of Sean Reilly, Vlad Anastasescu, Ryan Pickett, and Mazzurana won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.18. Senior Douglas Cohen led the divers with a first-place finish on the 3-meter (354.15) and a second place finish on the 1-meter (330.00).
 
Other top finishers for the Rainbow Warriors included Reilly, who took third in the 50 freestyle (21.27) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (46.27), and other fourth-place finishers Jayson Hagi (1000 freestyle, 9:37.66), Eli Wong (400 IM, 4:05.27), Lazar Bogdanovski (200 backstroke, 1:51.85), and newcomer Jose Gonzales (500 freestyle, 4:41.83).
 
The UH diving team will next see action when they return home to host the Sunshine Diving Invitational. The swimmers will return to competition on Nov. 16 when they head to Long Beach, Calif. for the three-day Arena Invitational.
