Warriors Ready For National Spotlight Against Spartans On ESPN

Following its only bye week of the season, the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team will play its fourth road game of the season with a nationally televised game at San Jose State, Friday, Oct. 14. Kick-off for the Western Athletic Conference contest is 6:00 p.m. PT (3:00 p.m. HT) at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif., and the game will be televised on ESPN.
 
The Warriors (3-2, 1-0 WAC) opened conference play with a 44-26 win at Louisiana Tech, Oct. 1. Since suffering consecutive losses at Washington and UNLV, UH has averaged 50 points and 503 yards of total offense in its last two wins over UC Davis and LTU. Quarterback Bryant Moniz ranks ninth nationally in total offense (340.8) while wide receiver Royce Pollard is 14th  in receiving (110.0).
 
SJSU (2-4, 1-1) saw its two-game win streak snapped at Brigham Young, 29-16 last Saturday in Provo, Utah. The Spartans opened WAC play with consecutive home games against Nevada (L, 14-17) and New Mexico State (W, 34-24). The victory over the Aggies snapped a 10-game WAC losing streak dating back to 2009.
 
This week's game marks a homecoming for UH special teams coach Dick Tomey, who was the Spartans' head coach for five seasons (2005-09). Tomey guided SJSU to 25-35 record and a New Mexico Bowl title in 2006.
 
In the series, UH has won the last five games at Spartan Stadium, the last four of which have been decided by seven points or less and the last two in overtime.

Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KHLO in Hilo, KKON in Kona, and KTOH on Kaua'i.

Series Information: UH leads 17-16-1. The teams have met 35 times since the series began in 1936 with UH holding a slight 17-16-1 advantage. UH has won nine of the last 10 meetings which includes a seven-game win streak from 2001-07. In WAC play, the Warriors have won 10 of the 15 meetings including a 5-1 mark in San Jose. The last two games at Spartan Stadium have gone into overtime with UH winning, 42-35 in 2007 and 17-10 in 2009.

UH special teams coach Dick Tomey was head coach at San Jose State from 2005-09, where he compiled a 25-35 record and led the Spartans to one bowl game…UH head coach Greg McMackin was SJSU's secondary coach from 1979-83 under then-head coach Jack Elway…The last two games played at Spartan Stadium in the series have gone to overtime, which UH won both times, while the last four meetings in San Jose have been decided by seven points or less, which UH won each game…UH has won the last five games in the series at Spartan Stadium with SJSU's last win in 1997…Under head coach Greg McMackin, UH is 9-5 during the month of October, which includes a current six-game win streak dating back to last season…Quarterback Bryant Moniz has not thrown an interception in his last 135 pass attempts, a career-best, dating back to the Washington game, including none in the last three games…UH will be making its 56th all-time appearance on national television, including third this season, and owns a 17-36-2 record...UH last opened WAC play with back-to-back road games in 2007, when it finished with a perfect 8-0 league mark…UH has won 11 of its last 12 WAC games dating back to 2009 (only loss at Boise State in 2010)…UH is tied for third nationally in sacks averaging 3.8 per game.
