Second Annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Underway Today

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (7-2) hosts the second annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, Dec. 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors open with Florida State (9-2) in a first-round matchup tonight at 8:00 p.m.
 
Also in the eight-team tournament are nationally ranked Baylor, Butler, Mississippi State, San Diego, Utah and Washington State. UH will face either Butler or Utah in the second round on Thursday, Dec. 23. Ten of the tournament's 12 games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks. Click here for a complete schedule.
 
The 'Bows finished in fourth place in last year's inaugural tournament with a opening round win over Charleston, followed by losses to UNLV and Saint Mary's. UH is led by first-year head coach Gib Arnold, who was an assistant coach on the USC squad that captured last year's tournament title.
 
The 'Bows, who are a perfect 6-0 this year, are coming off an 86-57 win over Chicago State on Lahaina, Maui, this past Friday. Florida State, meanwhile, enters the tournament with a 9-2 mark, including a spotless 3-0 record on the road.
