HONOLULU – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opened the Western Athletic Conference season with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 sweep of Boise State Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 10-2 on the season and 1-0 in WAC play. UH concludes its 13-match homestand Saturday night against Idaho at 7 p.m.
Senior
Amber Kaufman had seven kills, hit .667, and added four blocks and three aces.
Dani Mafua set the offense to a .429 hitting percentage in the match, with 33 assists and she added five digs and three blocks.
In the opening set, UH led the entire way and went on to a 25-21 victory. Ferrell and Cubi-Otineru had five kills each in the set, while UH hit .308 as a team.
Brittany Hewitt had three kills and two blocks and Kaufman added two kills and two blocks. Elizabeth Ka'aihue had nine digs and Cubi-Otineru added five digs. As a team UH recorded four blocks.
The Rainbow Wahine jumped out to a 5-1 lead and cruised to a 25-14 win in the second set. Ferrell had five kills in the set and Kaufman added three kills. Mafua was able to spread the offense around and led UH to a .450 hitting percentage. Ka'aihue added three digs and as a team the Rainbow Wahine had two blocks.
In the third set, UH took an early 7-2 lead and carried the momentum into a 25-14 win. Cubi-Otineru had seven kills and
Alexis Forsythe came off the bench to add five kills in the set. UH hit .600 in the final set, while adding four team blocks.
