HONOLULU – The sixth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team opened the Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 victory over Weber State Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 5-2 on the season and will take on UT-San Antonio Friday night at 7 p.m. No. 10 Stanford beat UT-San Antonio in the first match of the tournament and will play Weber State at 5 p.m. Friday.
UH had a balanced offensive effort, led by
Kanani Danielson, who had 11 kills and hit .350 for the match.
Amber Kaufman added eight kills, hit .538 and added two aces and four blocks.
The Rainbow Wahine jumped out to an early lead in the first set and went on to win 25-13. UH had a balanced offensive attack, with Cubi-Otineru leading the way with three kills. Ferrell, Kaufman, Danielson and Mafua each recorded two kills in the set. UH hit .400 as a team and Ferrell added three service aces.
UH was led by Danielson in the second set, who recorded five kills as the Rainbow Wahine won 25-13 to take a 2-0 lead. Ferrell and Kaufman each added three kills and Cubi-Otineru had two kills. Mafua had 10 assists as UH hit .591 for the set.

Stanford 3, UT-San Antonio 0
In the opening match of the tournament, Stanford cruised to a 25-17, 25-11, 25-9 victory over UT-San Antonio. Stanford's Janet Okogbaa led all players with 16 kills, hitting .842 for the match.
Stanford's Cassidy Lichtman and Alix Klineman each had seven kills and Alex Fisher added five kills. UT-San Antonio was led by Briana Mason and Kendra Rowland, who each had seven kills. As a team Stanford hit .554, while UT-San Antonio hit .098.
