Baseball Closes Regular Season With 10-2 Loss To Utah Valley

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (31-24) fell to the Utah Valley Wolverines (18-35) 10-2 in the regular season finale at Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. Jared Alexander (3-2) took the loss for UH while Kyle Beecher (3-3) got the win for Utah Valley.
 
Christian Johnson went 1-for-3 with one RBI while Kolten Wong and Sean Montplaisir both had runs scored. Ryan Morford and Kevin Fujii also had hits in the game.
 
UVU jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first and third innings. They then broke it open in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring three runs and one run, respectively, to get it to 8-0.
 
The 'Bows put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Johnson got it started with a RBI-single up the middle before Montplaisir scored on a double play.
 
The Wolverines then added two runs in the top of the ninth, making the final 10-2.
 
Hawai`i got the No. 5 seed and will host the Western Athletic Conference Tournament next week, facing No. 2 seed Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Top-seeded San Jose State will open the tournament at 11 a.m. against Nevada, with No. 3 seed Fresno State facing No. 4 New Mexico State at 3 p.m.
