Garcia Breaks UH Assist Record As 'Bows Beat Utah Valley 7-2

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (30-22) defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines (16-34) 7-2 in front of a crowd of 2,031 at Les Murakami Stadium Thursday. Jayson Kramer (5-4) got the win, allowing just one run in 8.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Jory Jensen (2-5) took the loss for UVU.
 
Greg Garcia broke the UH record for assists in a game, recording 11 assists while going 1-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a run. Kolten Wong was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs while Kevin Fujii went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Christian Johnson added a double, a RBI and a run.
 
The Rainbows got the offense started early as Macdonald hit a RBI-single before Catricala scored on an error to make it 2-0 after the first.
 
Garcia added a two-run double in the bottom of the second with Johnson and Fujii driving in a run each in the third to get it to 6-0.
 
Utah Valley put up single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to get it back to 6-2. But Wong struck in the bottom of the eighth, blasting a towering homer to right, making the final score 7-2.
 
The series continues tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Saturday's game will be at 7:35 p.m. before the 1:05 p.m. finale on Sunday.
