HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men's basketball team concluded its regular-season schedule with a 70-59 loss Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 13-16 overall and 5-11 in the Western Athletic Conference.

UH lost its fourth straight game and finished in eight place in the WAC standings. Nothing seemed to go right for UH in their final home game of the season. UH shot just 32 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 21 times, one short of its season high.

New Mexico State (16-14, 9-7 WAC) meanwhile snapped a two-game slide and swept the season series with the Bows. The Aggies finished in a three-way tie for third in the WAC standings.

Troy Gillenwater led four Aggies in double figures with 18 points, while Wendell McKines recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Kareem Nitoto led the 'Bows with 11 points, while Bill Amis finished 10. Roderick Flemings, who entered the game leading UH at nearly 17 pointer per game, was held to just nine point. It marked just the second time this season the junior did not score in double-digits.

UH led 22-21 in the first half but were out-scored 14-3 in the final seven minutes of the half. The Bows trailed 35-25 at the break as the Aggies forced 14 UH turnovers and shot 54 percent from the field to stake a double-digit lead.

UH shaved the deficit to seven points early in the second half but then went scoreless for nearly six minute. The Bows fell behind by as many as 18 points and could get no closer than nine points.

UH now heads to Reno, Nev., for the 2009 WAC Tournament. The No. 8 Bows will face No. 9 seed Fresno State in the play-in game on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. PT (4:30 HT).
