Women’s Tennis Falls To Illinois, 5-2

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team dropped a  5-2 decision to  No. 33 Illinois Saturday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 8-8 on the season, while the Illini moved to 12-4.
 
The match started with the Illini sweeping all three doubles match to take the first point of the day. In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine got strong performances for its top three positions. In just her third career match as a Rainbow Wahine, freshman Ellen Linsenbolz picked up her first win and doing against a ranked opponent at the No. 1 court. Lisenbolz swept No. 103 Leigh Finnegan 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Sophie Kobuch also defeated a ranked opponent, outlasting No. 108 Megan Fudge 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) in a super tie-breaker at the No. 2 court.
 
Anja-Vanessa Peter gave it a run at the No. 3 court before falling to Marisa Lambropoulos 7-6 (8), 7-5. Illinois clinched the match with a sweep of the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions, all in straight sets.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will face Marshall in the second match on Saturday, March 28 at the UH Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
