HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team was swept by Pac-10 powerhouse and No. 36 Washington, 7-0, Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine fall to 7-7 on the season.
The Rainbow Wahine dropped all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. Freshman Alyssa Nafarrete and senior Melinda Wong fell in a competitive 8-5 match to Venise Chan and Aleksandra Malovic at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, the No. 36 Huskies swept all six matches to earn the victory. Freshman Ellen Lisenbolz, now eligible, made her collegiate debut for the Rainbow Wahine. Lisenbolz lost in a close, hard fought and over two hour battle to No. 69 Denise Dy, 7-6(7), 6-4 at the No. 2 court. No. 27 Venise Chan put on an amazing display as she played flawless tennis to defeat Sophie Kobuch at the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-0.
The Rainbow Wahine look to bounce back from the loss as they play Cal Poly at home on Thursday. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
