Rainbow Wahine Golf Opens the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

Round 1 Results

KANE'OHE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team opened the 24th annual Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a round of 306, Monday, at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course. The Rainbow Wahine are currently in a three-way tie for fifth place with Boise State and Texas A&M.
 
Junior Corie Hou leads UH, currently tied for seventh at two-over par (74). Second behind Hou is senior Carolina Perez who shot a 76 and sits in a tie for 14th. Senior Phyllis Lai and junior Erin Matsuoka both shot a 78 and are currently tied for 22nd, while freshman Megan Ueno shot a 82 and sits in a tie for 47th.
 
Idaho leads the team standings after firing a first-round 297. Five shots back of Idaho are Nevada and Japan's Osaka Gakuin, tying for second at 303.
 
Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro leads individually at three-under par (69), with Texas A&M's Lauren Johnson and Nevada's Melanie DeLeon close behind at one-under par (71). Out of 63 golfers, these three were the only to shoot under-par in Round 1.
 
The tournament continues tomorrow with Round 2 beginning at 7:30 a.m. (shotgun start), and concludes on Wednesday with the third and final round.
