Rainbow Wahine Golf Finishes Lexus Classic In 11th; Perez Ties For Eighth

Final Results

FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team concluded the fifth annual Fresno State Lexus Classic, Tuesday, at the Copper River Country Club. The Rainbow Wahine carded rounds of 306, 313, and 324 for a 943 total and an 11th place finish.
 
UH's top finisher was senior Carolina Perez who entered the day in ninth and fired a final round 74 to tie for eighth place at 4-over-par (73-73-74=220). This marks Perez's best finish of the 2008-09 season and second-best finish of her collegiate career, the first being sixth place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational during the 2005-06 season.
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were junior Corie Hou (78-76-81=235/T38th), senior Phyllis Lai (81-81-82=244/T57th), and junior Erin Matsuoka (74-83-87=244/T57th).
 
Winning the tournament's team title was UC Irvine at 27-over-par (297-294-300=891). The Anteaters went into Round 3 in second place behind San Francisco, but took the lead with their final round of 300. San Francisco finished in second place, one shot behind UC Irvine.
 
Taking the individual title was Miki Ueoka of Santa Clara who finished at 7-under-par (68-69-72=209). Ueoka led the field in all three rounds and finished 3 shots ahead of the second place individual, Long Beach State's Kay Hoey.
 
Coming up, the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the Spartan Invitational, Mar. 2-3, in San Jose, Calif.
