Rainbow Wahine Tennis Fall In Finale Of Long Road Trip

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team concluded its five-match Southern California road trip with a 6-1 loss to San Diego, Monday afternoon at the USD West Tennis Courts. UH is 2-5 overall and finished the five-match road trip with a 2-3 mark.

San Diego (4-0) earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. UH had their chances as two of the three matches were close. The team of junior Sophie Kobuch and freshman Aglae Van den Bergh lost to Juliette Coupez and Samantha Mouly, 8-4 at the No. 1 position.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine dropped five of the six matches. UH's lone victory came at the No. 2 court. Freshman Anja-Vanessa Peter beat Samantha Mouly after Mouly won the first set 6-4 and retired in the second set, down 5-0. Van den Bergh dropped a tight three-set super tie-breaker decision to Maria Raygada 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(8).

The Rainbow Wahine will next host nine straight matches at home, beginning on March 3 against Presbyterian College. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. All nine matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex.
