FULLERTON, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team earned their first victory of the 2009 season, convincingly beating Cal State Fullerton, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Titan Courts. UH improved to 1-3 on the season.

The Rainbow Wahine jumped off to a great start by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.  The team of senior Melinda Wong and freshman Anja-Vanessa Peter and the duo of junior Sophie Kobuch and freshman Aglae Van den Bergh earned 8-2 victories at the No. 1 and 2 courts respectively. The duo of freshmen Alyssa Nafarrete and Dasha Lagmay squeezed by for a 7-6(2) victory at the No. 3 position.

In singles play, UH won five of the six matches to clinch the dual match win. Kobuch, Peter, Wong, Van den Bergh, and Nafarrete all earned straight set victories at the No. 1-5 positions respectively.

The Rainbow Wahine will next play a dual match against national, Pac-10 powerhouse and No. 3 UCLA, Friday, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
