No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Send Seniors Off With Victory Over Aggies

HONOLULU – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team won in straight sets over Utah State, 25-11, 25-12, 25-21 on Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, as five seniors played their final home match as a Rainbow Wahine.
 
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 23-2 on the season and 13-0 in WAC play, winning their 19th straight match.
 
Seniors Catherine Fowler, Stephanie Brandt, Jayme Lee, Amber Kaufman and Aneli Cubi-Otineru all played their final regular season home match of their careers on Sunday, as fans stayed following the match to honor the seniors.
 
Cubi-Otineru had a match-high 13 kills and hit .458 in the match, adding six digs and two aces. Kaufman had 10 kills and two blocks and hit .375.
 
Fowler started the third set and had three kills, Lee had four digs and one ace and Brandt had five digs and two assists.
 
Kanani Danielson had 13 kills, hit .480 and had 14 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Stephanie Ferrell and Brittany Hewitt each added five kills.
 
In the first set, the Rainbow Wahine jumped in front early and cruised to a 25-11 victory. Cubi-Otineru had six kills on nine swings, hitting .667 in the set. Kaufman and Hewitt each had four kills and Danielson had two kills. UH hit .464 as a team and held Utah Stat to a .000 hitting percentage.
 
UH took another early lead in the second set, leading to a 25-12 victory. The Rainbow Wahine hit .514 in the set and held the Aggies to a .167 hitting percentage. Danielson had six kills in the set and Ferrell added five kills on seven swings. Kaufman and Cubi-Otineru each had four kills.
 
In the third set, UH started four seniors and won 25-21. Danielson had five kills on 10 swings, Cubi-Otineru added three kills and Kaufman had two kills. Fowler had three kills as she started on the outside.
 
UH ends the WAC regular season with three straight road matches, beginning Thursday, Nov. 12 at Boise State. The Rainbow Wahine will face Idaho on Saturday and end the season at Utah State on Monday night.
