No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Sweep Fresno State Friday Night

HONOLULU – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team swept Fresno State, 25-19, 25-11, 25-13 Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center, winning its 18th straight match.
 
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 22-2 overall and stay unbeaten in WAC play with a 12-0 record. UH wraps up its regular season home schedule on Sunday against Utah State at 5 p.m. Five seniors will be honored following the match.
 
On Friday night, UH was led sophomore Kanani Danielson, who had a match-high 15 kills and hit .387. Danielson added six digs and two blocks.
 
Senior Amber Kaufman had eight kills and hit .467 in the match and added three blocks. Brittany Hewitt had six kills, hit .714 and had three blocks in two sets and Aneli Cubi-Otineru added five kills.
 
As a team, UH hit .330 with Dani Mafua setting the offense with 26 assists. The Rainbow Wahine had seven blocks and held the Bulldogs to a .042 hitting percentage.
 
In the first set, UH went back-and-forth with Fresno State early, but pulled away late to take a 25-19 victory. Danielson led the way with six kills, hitting .308 for the set, while Cubi-Otineru added three kills. Stephanie Ferrell, Kaufman and Hewitt each had two kills as Mafua set the offense to a .281 hitting percentage.
 
The Rainbow Wahine took an early lead in the second set and never looked back, ending in a 25-11 victory. Kaufman had five kills in the set on eight swings and no errors. Danielson and Hewitt each had four kills. UH hit .500 in the set, with Mafua adding 11 assists.
 
UH jumped in front of Fresno State 13-6, leading to a Bulldog timeout. The Rainbow Wahine went on to win the set, 25-13. Danielson had five kills in the set and Catherine Fowler and Alexis Forsythe came off the bench to add a kill each.
