Men’s Basketball Plays First Road Game Of TheYear At UC Irvine

Game Notes

Jeremy Lay dribbles past BYU-Hawaii player
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team heads to the road for the first time this season when it plays at UC Irvine on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) at the Bren Events Center.

The meeting with UC Irvine is the return game following last year's 76-70 Anteater win in Honolulu as as part of the ESPNU BracketBusters event. The Anteaters nailed seven of their first nine three point attempts and finished with eight in the first half alone as they built a 20-point lead, before holding off a late UH rally. This will be just UH's second visit to Irvine and first since 1972. Current head coach Bob Nash was a senior forward on that squad and helped lead the 'Bows to a 88-79 win.

Hawai'i (2-3) looks to end a three-game slide when it faces UC Irvine. The Rainbow Warriors have given up 80+ points in losses to Northern Colorado, Brigham Young and New Mexico. Jeremy Lay scored a season-high 26 points in UH's last outing versus New Mexico and leads the team at 14.8 ppg. UCI, meanwhile, enters the game with a 3-3 mark and will be playing just their second home game of the year and first since its season-opening win over La Verne on Nov. 13. Senior guard Michael Hunter leads the team at 13.2 ppg.
