SAN JOSE – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team completed a three-match road trip with a perfect 3-0 record after beating San Jose State 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 on Monday night at the Spartan Gym in San Jose, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 21-2 on the season and 11-0 in WAC play, and carry a 17-match win streak. UH returns home for its final two home matches of the season beginning Friday, Nov. 6 and ending on Sunday, Nov. 8 with senior night.
On Monday night,
Kanani Danielson was nearly perfect, recording 15 kills on 27 swings and only one error, hitting .519 for the match.
Senior
Amber Kaufman had a big night in front of friends and family in her hometown of San Jose. Kaufman had 11 kills on 13 swings, hitting .846 for the match. Kaufman also added three blocks.
In the first set, the Rainbow Wahine never trailed en route to a 25-12 win. Danielson led the way with five kills on seven swings, hitting .714 for the set. Kaufman had four kills on five swings, hitting .800 and Cubi-Otineru added two kills, two aces and two digs in the set. As a team UH hit .478 and held San Jose State to .136, including two team blocks.
UH took the second set 25-15, pulling away from San Jose State midway through. Danielson once again led the way with six kills on 10 swings and no errors in the set. Cubi-Otineru added three kills and Kaufman and
Brittany Hewitt had two kills. UH hit .538 in the set and held San Jose State to .111.
The Rainbow Wahine mixed up the lineup in the third set and won 25-15.
Corinne Cascioppo came off the bench to record four blocks and Danielson had four kills.
Five seniors will be honored on Sunday, Nov. 8 when UH faces Utah State at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
