No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Complete Perfect WAC Season, Beat Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team completed the WAC season with a perfect 16-0 record Monday night. UH beat Utah State, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13 in its regular season finale at the Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah, behind a career-high 32 kills by Kanani Danielson.
 
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 26-2 overall and finish 16-0 in WAC play. UH clinched its 14th straight WAC title two matches ago and its perfect conference record marks the 12th time in history UH has finished without a loss.
 
Danielson led the way Monday night, recording a career-high 32 kills, hitting .446 in the match. Danielson's 32 kills is the most in a match for UH since 2006.
 
Senior Aneli Cubi-Otineru tied a career-high with 22 kills, hitting .462 for the match. Cubi-Otineru also added 11 digs. Amber Kaufman had eight kills and Stephanie Ferrell added six kills.
 
In the first set, the Rainbow Wahine held a steady six-point lead for most of the set, winning 25-19. Danielson led the way with eight kills, hitting .636 and adding two digs. Ferrell had four kills on nine swings and Cubi-Otineru added two kills. UH hit .333 for the set, while holding Utah State to a .091 hitting percentage and adding four team blocks.
 
UH went back-and-forth with Utah State for most of the set, until the Aggies pulled away at the end for a 25-22 victory. Danielson had eight kills and two digs and Cubi-Otineru added five kills. Kaufman had two kills as UH hit .257 in the set.
 
In the third set, the Rainbow Wahine bounced back and led for most of the set, taking a 25-19 victory. Danielson was once again on fire, recording 10 kills in the set. Cubi-Otineru added five kills and Kaufman had three kills. UH hit .429 in the set, while holding Utah State to a .195 hitting percentage.
 
UH jumped in front 6-1 in the first set and cruised to a 25-13 victory. Cubi-Otineru had 10 kills in the set and Danielson added six kills. UH hit .368 in the fourth set, compared to .067 for Utah State.
 
UH concluded the regular season Monday night and now look to the WAC Tournament, which begins Monday, Nov. 23 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Rainbow Wahine earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament and will have a bye into the semifinals. UH's first match will be Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. PT against the winner of the No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed match played Monday night.
