No. 3 Rainbow Wahine Sweep Louisiana Tech, Win 13th Straight Match

HONOLULU – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team wasted little time Monday night, sweeping Louisiana Tech 25-12, 25-8, 25-17 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
The Rainbow Wahine won their 13th straight match, improving to 17-2 overall and 8-0 in WAC play. UH reached the midway point of the WAC season, and will play six of their final eight WAC matches on the road.
 
UH had a balanced offensive attack and hit .360 for the match. Kanani Danielson had 11 kills and 10 digs, for her second straight double-double.
 
Senior Amber Kaufman had eight kills on eight swings, hitting a perfect 1.000 on the night, a career-high. Aneli Cubi-Otineru added eight kills and three aces and Brittany Hewitt had six kills.
 
In the first set UH hit .464 and cruised to a 25-12 victory. Kaufman led the way recording four kills on four swings. Cubi-Otineru had six kills and hit .667 and Danielson had four kills and hit .429. Cubi-Otineru also added five digs and two aces in the opening set.
 
The Rainbow Wahine jumped in front of the Lady Techsters early in the second set and went on to a 25-8 win. Kaufman stayed perfect with four kills on four swings in the second set and Danielson added four kills. UH hit .478 in the second set and held Louisiana Tech to a -.143 hitting percentage.
 
UH mixed up the lineup in the third set and Corinne Cascioppo led the way with four kills in a 25-17 win. Catherine Fowler had three kills and three blocks in the set and Stephanie Brandt had 11 assists.
 
The Rainbow Wahine host BYU-Hawai'i on Friday night 7 p.m. Before the match UH will hold its annual alumnae match, beginning at 5 p.m. Following both matches, a presentation honoring Dave Shoji will promptly start.
