Cross Country Takes Ninth At Bronco Invitational

Final Results

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – In a meet that will help to determine seeding at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks, the University of Hawai'i women's cross country team placed ninth at the Bronco Invitational, Saturday at Baylands Regional Park. More importantly, the Rainbow Wahine placed third among the six WAC teams competing.

UH accumulated 245 points and trailed meet champion New Mexico State (49 points) and Nevada (166 pts./5th) among WAC schools. The Rainbow Wahine finished ahead of Fresno State (251 pts./10th), Boise State (324 pts./14th), and San Jose State (392 pts./15th).

Highlighting UH's effort was Ashley Aitken's sixth place finish with yet another personal best. Two weeks ago, Aitken set a huge PR at Oregon's Dellinger Invitational but this week she knocked off another 30 seconds by finishing the 5K race in 17:23. The transfer from the University of Tulsa, beat the top runners from schools such as Stanford, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, California, and Sacramento State.

Jessica Forrester, the team's top finisher in two races this season, placed 41st overall with a time of 18:17 while Mariana Monasi followed closely behind at 18:39 for 58th place. Also scoring team points for UH were Liisa Cushing (19:03, 91st) and Tava Tedesco (19:04, 93rd).

Lauren Weaver, running attached, won the individual title in a time of 16:46 ahead of Santa Clara's Stephanie Wilson (16:54).

The Rainbow Wahine will next compete at the WAC Championships, Oct. 31, in Reno, Nev.
