RUSTON, La. – The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team began its first road trip of the season with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 victory over Louisiana Tech Thursday night at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.
The Rainbow Wahine improve to 12-2 on the season and 3-0 in WAC play. With the win, UH has now won eight straight matches by a 3-0 score.
UH continues its first road trip of the season Saturday night, taking on New Mexico State at 7 p.m. (3 p.m. HT) in Las Cruces, N.M.
Offensively Thursday night,
Aneli Cubi-Otineru had 10 kills, hitting .368 and added six digs and two aces.
Amber Kaufman had nine kills on 12 swings, hitting .750 for the match.
For the match, UH hit .487, including a season-high .667 in the third set. Senior
Catherine Fowler recorded three kills in the third set, playing in front of family that made the trip from Arkansas.
In the opening set, UH jumped on top of Louisiana Tech early, 8-1, and cruised to a 25-11 victory. UH had a balanced offensive attack, with Cubi-Otineru leading the way with four kills, hitting .571 in the set. Ferrell and Danielson had three kills and Kaufman and Hewitt added two kills. Kaufman had two aces and Elizabeth Ka'aihue had seven digs. As a team, UH hit .480 and had four aces.
The Rainbow Wahine had the same start in the second set, going ahead 8-1, and went on to win 25-18. Kaufman led the way in the second set, recording six kills on seven swings. Ferrell and Cubi-Otineru added three kills each. UH hit .333 in the set and recorded two blocks.
The third set, UH took the lead for good 8-7 and went on to win 25-12. Forsythe had five kills on five swings in the third set. It's the second match in a row Forsythe has came into the match in the third set and recorded five kills. Danielson had four kills and Cubi-Otineru added three as UH hit .667 in the set.
