Rainbow Wahine Golf Tied For 13th After First Day of McGuire Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team opened the first round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Thursday, with a 314 and are tied for 13th. The tournament is being held at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course.

Leading the way for UH was senior Carolina Perez who shot a 3-over, 76, and stands in a tie for 32nd. Junior Corie Hou was one shot back at 77 followed by freshman Kelcie Kawano (79), senior Phyllis Lai (82) and junior Erin Matsuoka (82).

Pepperdine, who is ranked eighth nationally in the preseason national ranking, leads the field with an even-par 292 followed by host and No. 19 New Mexico (294), and Wyoming (297). UH is tied with UTEP and San Diego State in the 16-team field.

Individually, Pepperdine's Jayvie Agojo and Colorado State's Kasey Claussen lead the tournament after both shot 2-under, 71.

The tournament continues on Friday with round two and concludes with the third round on Saturday. In its 29th year, the McGuire Invitational is one of the premier collegiate tournaments in the country.
