Box Score
HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (26-28) fell to the Utah Valley Wolverines (16-35-1) 5-1 in front of a crowd of 2,209 at Les Murakami Stadium Thursday.
Nicholas Rhodes (4-6) took the loss for UH, allowing five runs in 7.1 innings with seven strikeouts. Dan Christensen (2-7) got the win for UVU.
Jonathan Hee continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-4. Vinnie Catricala added a 2-for-4 game with a run while Greg Garcia went 1-for-4 with one RBI and a walk.
Utah Valley drew first blood as Kevin Arendse hit a solo home run to straight-away centerfield in the top of the second, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 edge.
Hawai`i came right back with to tie the score on a bases-loaded walk by Garcia in the bottom half of the inning. But Arendse came up big again in the sixth, blasting another solo home run to center, giving Utah Valley a 2-1 edge.
The Wolverines would add insurance runs in the top of the eighth with three-straight RBI-singles, pushing UVU's lead to 5-1. That would be more than enough for Christensen, who finished the complete-game victory for his second win of the season.
The two teams continue their series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium.
