'Bows Take Series With 6-2 Victory At San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (13-20, 5-7 WAC) defeated the San Jose State Spartans (15-13, 6-9) 6-2 in the series-finale at Municipal Stadium Sunday, taking the series at SJSU three games to one. Alex Capaul (1-3) got the win, allowing one earned run in 5.0 innings. Scott Sobczak (2-1) took the loss while Joshua Schneider picked up his first save, allowing no runs on two hits in 4.0 innings.

Derek DuPree continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run. Brandon Haislet added a 2-for-4 game with a run and two stolen bases while Landon Hernandez was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Jeffrey Van Doornum also had two hits with Vinnie Catricala scoring two runs.

The Rainbows got the offense started early, as Garcia and Hernandez hit back-to-back RBI-sinlges, giving Hawai`i a 2-0 edge. The Spartans responded with a run in the bottom of the second, scoring on a bases-loaded walk to cut it back to 2-1.

Macdonald added an RBI-single in the top of the third. DuPree then drove in a run in the fourth, making it a 4-1 ballgame. But SJSU came right back with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth to cut their deficit back to 4-2.

DuPree would add another RBI-single in the sixth, with UH scoring a final run in the top of the ninth to take the 6-2 victory.

Hawai`i will now return home to face New Mexico State for a four-game series from April 10-12.
