Warriors Finish WAC Championships In Tie For Eighth

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team (324-309-315-948) finished the Western Athletic Conference Championships in a tie for eighth at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club Wednesday, ending the 2007-08 season.

Robert Berton (76-75-76-227) was UH's top finisher, taking 10th at 11-over-par. Ryan Perez (85-74-76-235) tied for 25th, followed by Kamden Brakel (86-76-82-244), tied for 35th, and Cody Pewarchuk (81-84-81-246), tied for 39th. Kyle Walters (82-W-83-165), withdrew from the second round, but was able to shoot 83 in the final round.

New Mexico State took the team title, finishing at 27-over-par. Boise State (+32) finished second, followed by Fresno State (+44), Idaho (+55), Nevada (+56), San Jose State (+62), Louisiana Tech (+67) and UH and Utah State (+84).

Boise State's Troy Merritt ran away with the individual title, finishing at seven-under-par. Grant Doverspike of Fresno State (+3) took second, followed by NMSU's Kevin Lozares (+4), Rosco Valentine of SJSU (+5) and Boise State's Matt Hastings (+7).
