First Round Results
FRESNO, Calif. - Led by
Corie Hou, who shot an even-par 72 to tie for first individually, the University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team hold the first round lead, shooting a 13-over-par 301 at the Western Athletic Conference Championships at Sunnyside Golf Course.
UH holds a lead of eight shots over host Fresno State and San Jose State (+21). Idaho and New Mexico State (+24) are both tied for fourth, followed by Nevada (+28) and Boise State (+36).
Along with Hou, UH got strong performances out of Xyra Suyetsugu, tying for fourth at three-over-par, and Lisa Kajihara, tying for seventh at four-over-par. Phyllis Lai is tied for 11th with an opening-round 78 while Carolina Perez is tied for 32nd with an 84.
Tied with Hou atop the leaderboard is New Mexico State's Suteera Chanachai. Fresno State's Laura Luethke (+1) is in third, with Suyetsugu, Cristina Corpus of San Jose State and Idaho's Kelly Nakashima (+3).
The tournament continues tomorrow with the second round, starting with 8:00 a.m. tee times. UH's tee times are scheduled for Perez at 9:20 a.m., Lai at 9:30 a.m., Kajihara at 9:40 a.m., Suyetsugu at 9:50 a.m. and Hou at 10:00 a.m.
