HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Hawai`i Pacific Wednesday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine snapped a season-long 14-match losing streak with the victory over the No. 22-ranked NCAA Division II school.
UH grabbed the doubles point in thrilling fashion as the team of Natasha Zorec and Jennifer Goldman won a tiebreak over HPU's Anastasia Ageychik and Ralitsa Pirdopska, 9-8 (7) at the No. 2 court. UH's Sophie Kobuch and Chloe Bihag also won their doubles match over Ingrid Cseh and Lauren Shin, 8-2, at No. 1.
The Rainbow Wahine (1-14) captured four of the six singles matches as Kobuch, Bihag, Zorec and Goldman were victorious in their matches at the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5 positions. Kobuch easily downed Cseh, 6-2, 6-1 while Bihag dropped only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Pirdopska. Zorec squeezed out a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nina Mihova and Goldman won a super-tiebreaker over Elena Hudzikova, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9).
Hawai`i will next host NAIA powerhouse Azusa Pacific, Wednesday, April 9. First serve is 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
