Rainbow Wahine Lose 6-1 Decision To No. 37 St. Mary's

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 37 St. Mary's on Sunday, at the Wathen Tennis Complex in Fresno, Calif. With the loss, UH falls to 2-16 on the 2008 season.

St. Mary's won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The team of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chole Bihag won UH's only doubles match, ousting Jessica Hoath and Nienke Strijbis at the No. 1 court, 8-3.

In singles action, the Rainbow Wahine lost five of the six matches. Kobuch, ranked No. 82 in the latest ITA singles rankings, fell to Hoath at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4. The Rainbow Wahine's lone victory came at the No. 3 court. Freshman Natasha Zorec outlasted Marah Calvo in the third set super tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0(6).

The Rainbow Wahine will next travel and play at Eastern Washington on Tuesday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. UH will conclude its four-match road trip against fellow WAC foe, Idaho on Wednesday, April 16.
