No. 3 USC Ousts No. 4 Rainbow Wahine, 13-8

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The fourth-ranked University of Hawai`i women's water polo team lost its second consecutive match, 13-8, to No. 3 USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Saturday at the McDonald's Swim Stadium.

Lisa van Raalte, Kelly Mason, and Carmen Eggens led the Rainbow Wahine with two goals apiece. Samantha Motekaitis and Angela Turnbull also found the net once.

Freshman goalie Sara Gralitzer had six saves in her fifth-straight match.

The Trojans (16-6, 9-2 MPSF) got off to a good start in the match, scoring three goals and holding the Rainbow Wahine (15-8, 7-5 MPSF) scoreless in the first period. From there, USC led the entire match.

The Rainbow Wahine scored twice in the in the second period, but still trailed 6-2 at the half.

USC outscored Hawai`i again in the third with five goals to the Rainbow Wahine's two, holding a lead of 11-4.

Hawai`i made a final rally in the fourth with four goals. Gralitzer also held USC to two goals, but that wouldn't be enough to stop the Trojans from a 13-8 victory.

The Rainbow Wahine conclude their seven-match road trip with a non-conference triple-header Sunday, April 13, at Long Beach State. The schedule is as follows:

9:25 a.m. PDT (6:25 a.m. HT) - vs. Sonoma State
11:45 a.m. PDT (8:45 a.m. HT) - vs. Claremont-Mudd- Scripps
2:15 p.m. PDT (11:15 a.m. HT) - vs. Pomona College
