LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team fell just short of qualifying for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Team Race Nationals after finishing third at the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Championship hosted by USC on Friday.
Hawai`i completed the all-day event with a record of 10-5. Stanford finished first and USC finished second to qualify for next month's nationals. The top two finishers in the district earn a bid for the ICSA National Championship.
Sailing for UH were Mike Scott, Andrew Meade, Mark Spector, William Petersen, Becky Mabardy, Pam Magasinn and Jackie McCloughlin. After a double-round robin of 12 races, UH advanced to the championship round of four, but were unable to gain ground on the top two teams.
Hawai`i remains in Long Beach for the PCCSC Coed Dinghy Championship, April 12-13, with four berths to the ICSA national semifinals up for grabs.
