Rainbow Warriors Down Azusa Pacific, 4-3

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team picked up its second straight win with a 4-3 victory over Azusa Pacific, Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex. UH improved its record to 4-10 on the 2008 season.

The Rainbow Warriors played well in doubles, winning two of the three matches to earn the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, the duo of junior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Andreas Weber played solid, smart doubles to defeat Matthijs Bolsius and Art Fatkhiev, 8-5. The team of freshman Craig Faulk and sophomore Spence Mendoza outlasted Daniel Moore and Ronald Chow, 9-8(4) at the No. 3 court.

In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors clinched victory by winning three of the six matches. Heinemann crushed Bolsius at the No. 1 court, 6-0, 6-0. Heinemann, ranked No. 115 in the latest ITA singles rankings, has now won seven straight singles matches.

Weber, ranked No. 107, raced past Patrick Kur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 position. Junior Jeff Fitch earned the deciding point for the Rainbow Warriors by overpowering Ronald Chow, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 5 position.

The Rainbow Warriors will conclude their 2008 regular season at home against Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, April 15. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
